One of the most important steps to staying motivated is to adopt a positive attitude. Take the time to appreciate the progress you have made and the successes you have achieved. Focus on the ‘gains’ (the small wins) i.e., how much you have achieved even if you haven’t hit your goals whilst also remaining aware of the ‘gaps’. This will help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.
Another important step to staying motivated is to set goals that align with your core values. Setting a goal because someone else has that goal and it seems like a good idea; or because your Company has announced a new exciting sales incentive will lead to frustration, stress, and disappointment. Motivation will not last and even if you achieve the goal the success will feel hollow if it is not aligned with your values.
Once you have decided on your goals breaking them down into smaller, more manageable tasks is another great way to stay motivated. This will help you stay on track and make progress.
Rewarding yourself when you accomplish a goal is a great way to stay motivated. Whether it’s a day out, a treat, or a night with your favourite book, find something that motivates you. This will help you stay motivated and work towards your goals.
Every minute spent in planning saves 10 minutes in execution! Commit to planning your work time at the beginning of each week , use time blocking so that you can see at a glance what you are focussing on and ensure that the actions you are taking are aligned with your goals.
Be amongst a community who support you and raise you, who encourage you and understand why you are setting out to achieve your goals. Having people ‘who get what you do’ and understand why is key to remaining motivated.
Ensure you build in regular breaks, time away from your desk or phone and switch off and do something else, reconnect with nature, play with your kids, go dancing! Working without regular time out will affect productivity and motivation so don’t push through, listen to your mind and body and ensure you are stepping away to come back revitalised and re-invigorated.
